GY-DV500 Dead Pixel Correction

CCD cameras can develop dead pixels. This happens quite frequently many cameras now add the ability to mask these pixels.

On the GY-DV500U camera the process is as follows.

  1. Make sure V resolution is set to normal. V-max cannot be set.
  2. Warm up th camera for a minimum of two hours, if not more, before this procedure is performed. The longer the camera runs the more pronounced the dead pixels become.
  3. Hold the white balance switch up while powering the camera on.
  4. The service menu will say that correction is ON and the second menu selection will perform the dead pixel detection and concealment process. Turn the shutter wheel to move the menu cursor to the second line and press the shutter wheel in. The menu says executing for several seconds and then stops.

Understand that this process does not fix the dead pixel it only emulates a color value where the pixel died based on the pixel colors around it. The process only conceals dead pixels that show at 0db of gain. because of this you may not be able to fix all the pixels you desire. If this is the case try leaving the camera on longer. You also may need to perform this process many times for your desired outcome.
